As a pet owner, it is your responsibility to ensure the health of your animal since they don’t rely on themselves as much as their wild brethren. Keeping a pet healthy can be the difference in how long they live and if they succumb to any diseases. In this regard, pets are very much like children and need to be given the right support to lead a healthy life. Keeping your pet healthy only takes consistent monitoring of their diet and activity, along with the usual tender loving care.
Diet
Like humans, eating too much bad stuff can have adverse affects on a pet’s health. Owners should feed their pets food that is fortified in nutrients and vitamins. It also beneficial to feed them a range of foods that are comprised of vegetables as well as a variety of meats including fish, chicken, turkey and even exotic things like buffalo. Owners also have to be conscious of the quantities in which they feed their pets and the frequency they give them treats. Pets can always have too much of a good thing.
Exercise
While most pets can, and do, exercise themselves, owners can help facilitate a good exercise regiment to help keep them in shape. For dogs, the obvious thing to do is go on frequent walks. However, dog owners should take them running or to a park where they can chase other dogs. Cats on the other hand have to be exercised indoors. Cat owners have to spend time instigating play with toys that will get their cat running and jumping.
Vet visits
Some health problems may not be visible to the naked eye. That’s why owners have to be up to date on their visits to the veterinarian.
A healthy pet is a good pet, but it’s up to the owner.
