Breeding Cats

Cats are excellent reproducers. Female cats can become pregnant more than once per season. Many kittens are put to sleep every year that are born in United States because no one adopts them. If you really want to breed your cat, you need to decide carefully and follow a few steps that you do get the breed you require. If you do not want your cat to get pregnant, then you need to spray your female cat every six months.

The breeding season for cats lasts in the months of march and September. A few cats can get pregnant more than once a year. If you want only a single litter per season then you need to be vigilant that your cat does not get pregnant again. This is a major cause of problem among cat owners who can not find takers for new kittens. Cats get into heat more than once a month during the breeding season with at least one per season. Some heat session lasts for weeks at once. When your cat is in heat, you will notice signs such as increased appetite, more meowing and urinating around the house. The cat also becomes restless and less affectionate during these times. In cases when she is out of heat, the cat will come out of heat in a single day. If the heat signs lasts even after mating, she is not pregnant and you need to consult a vet in case this lasts. After she has become pregnant, the first major physicals change that you will notice is the change in her nipples. This happens in the first two weeks of the pregnancy. Then there are signs like swelling of the abdomen and also increase in appetite. This is cats begin stealing stuff from the house to eat. In case your cat is on any medications, on the first signs of pregnancy you need to stop the medications.
